Innovation heißt wörtlich „Neuerung“ oder „Erneuerung“. Das Wort ist von den lateinischen Begriffen novus „neu“ und innovatio „etwas neu Geschaffenes“ abgeleitet. Im Deutschen wird der Begriff heute im Sinne von neuen Ideen und Erfindungen sowie für deren wirtschaftliche Umsetzung verwendet.
